Connornopsid

We had Connor’s birthday party today so I was up at the crack of dawn finishing up his cake:

Connor chose the wording on the cake and named the giant beastie after himself! The cake was white chocolate at Connor’s request and was covered with sugarpaste and then I cut out rice paper triangles and stuck them on with royal icing.
I also finished the cake for the little bear in my bear tutorial:

Rex has now joined the Future Predator and Connoropsid!

He is made out of modelling paste and has rice papers wings and crest. He’s stuck onto a wire so that he can hover over his pals (Are they pals? Maybe they are enemies! I don’t watch Primeval…). I’ll finish up the cake on Saturday – hopefully my son will like it!
I’ve also been making some sugarpaste teddy bears for orders due this weekend:
I’ve put a little photo step by step in my tutorials.

Alice in Wonderland

I was supposed to be on holiday last week, but for one reason & another it didn’t work out and I ended up just as busy as usual! So when a customer phoned me to find out whether I could make a last minute Alice in Wonderland themed cake I jumped at the chance. By a freaky coincidence I’d just added some Alice cupcakes to the website so I only had the cake design to come up with. I was asked to make the top to look like the Mad Hatter’s hat and decided on:

The hat brim and cupcake toppers are made out of modelling paste. I used my grass tip on the cupcakes.

Birthday Cake!

Today is MY birthday! I wanted something pink & girly this year but decided that I was really too old for a princess castle cake so settled for a baby whimsy & cupcakes instead:

Primeval!

connoropsid

It’s my son’s 7th birthday this week and being the little Primeval addict that he is, has asked for a Primeval cake. Also, being a little ambitious thing, he bounded up to me the other day, Primeval sticker book in hand, and asked me to make a Gorgornopsid with the Future Predator on his back and a flying Rex. Admittedly the Gorgonopsid doesn’t exactly look like one so it is now called the Connoropsid.

Both monsters are made out of Rice Krispie treats, covered with fondant, scored with a knife, imprinted with a

pattern sheet and then painted. The cake will be all shimmery & covered in spikes to look like the anomoly (as suggested by Mystical Mischief  at the British Sugarcraft Guild)

Amber helped bake the cake, having a great time mixing and being my little helper:
